COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering Management program combines civil engineering principles with management skills to prepare students for leadership roles in the construction and infrastructure industry. Delivered over four years in a sandwich format, it includes two years of academic study, a full year of industrial placement, and a final year of advanced study. In the early stages, students build core foundations in construction technology, surveying, engineering mathematics, materials, structures, and sustainable building systems, alongside modules in economics, law, and research skills relevant to the built environment. As the program progresses, students develop applied knowledge in construction management, civil engineering law, building information modelling, fluid mechanics, geotechnics, and structural design, with strong emphasis on practical laboratory work, digital tools, and industry practices. The work placement year provides valuable real-world experience, strengthening professional and technical competencies. In later years, students focus on advanced topics such as project management, site management, human resource management, structural engineering, and sustainable construction, while also engaging in capstone projects, dissertations, and integrated design work. Elective modules allow specialisation in areas such as environmental engineering, urban economics, surveying, and financial management. Throughout the program, students develop skills in leadership, communication, problem-solving, and digital construction technologies. Graduates are equipped to manage complex civil engineering projects while balancing technical, environmental, financial, and organisational demands in a rapidly evolving industry.
