COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biotechnology with Biopharmaceutical Science program provides a structured progression from foundational sciences to advanced industry-focused expertise. In the first year, students develop core knowledge in applied biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, alongside essential laboratory skills and scientific problem-solving. The second year builds on this foundation with modules in cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology, while also introducing analytical techniques such as spectroscopy and chromatography and developing statistical and quality control skills. Students gain an understanding of immunology and the role of microorganisms in health, food and environmental contexts. In the third year, the focus shifts to applied and industrial topics including bioanalytical techniques, applied microbiology, biotechnology and biopharmaceutical science, alongside quality assurance and regulatory practices. A significant feature is the extended work placement, where students gain practical experience in sectors such as biopharmaceuticals, healthcare, food or environmental industries. The final year emphasises advanced scientific and technical competencies, including bioanalysis, biomolecular techniques, bioprocessing, data analytics and mammalian cell culture. Students also develop research, project management and quality management skills, culminating in a major research project. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industries or for further postgraduate study.
