COURSE CURRICULUM

The Applied Psychology – BSc (Hons) program at Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest offers a structured curriculum that develops a strong foundation in psychological theory, research, and applied skills over four years. In Year 1, students are introduced to the foundations of psychology, research methods, brain and behaviour, statistics, and key areas such as developmental and social psychology, alongside personal and professional development. Year 2 builds on this knowledge with modules covering adult development, cognition, personality, health psychology, and advanced biological psychology, while also strengthening quantitative and qualitative research skills. In Year 3, students gain practical experience through a semester-long work placement or international exchange, allowing them to apply theoretical learning in real-world or global contexts. The final year focuses on advanced topics including cognitive psychology, counselling psychology, and educational psychology, alongside the design and completion of an independent research project. Students also explore contemporary issues and deepen their understanding of personality and social psychology. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on critical thinking, scientific research, data analysis, and professional skills.
