COURSE CURRICULUM

The Veterinary Nursing program provides students with comprehensive scientific knowledge, practical clinical training, and professional skills needed for careers in veterinary practice. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, veterinary anatomy and physiology, companion animal husbandry, and introductory veterinary nursing. They are also introduced to ethics, regulatory affairs, and placement preparation while gaining practical experience through their first veterinary nursing placement. Year 2 develops more advanced knowledge and practical skills in veterinary pharmacology, biochemistry, microbiology, diagnostic imaging, clinical laboratory techniques, infection and disease control, surgical nursing, and clinical veterinary nursing. Students also study large animal husbandry and continue professional development through a second practice placement. In Year 3, learners focus on specialised veterinary nursing areas including surgical nursing, veterinary anaesthesia, companion animal medical nursing, equine medical nursing, genetics, and veterinary bioanalysis. The final year also includes extensive professional practice assessments through clinical competency exams, practical large animal assessments, and portfolio work during the third veterinary nursing placement. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience in veterinary clinics, laboratories, and farm environments, enabling them to develop confidence, technical ability, and professional competence. Graduates are prepared to work in small animal, equine, mixed, and large animal veterinary practices, as well as wider animal health and welfare sectors.
