COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Drug Development and Analysis) is a three-year program that combines chemistry, biology, pharmaceutical science, biotechnology, and analytical techniques to prepare students for careers in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. In Year 1, students develop strong foundations in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, laboratory safety, scientific communication, and information technology. They also gain practical laboratory experience and teamwork skills through scientific projects and problem-based learning activities. In Year 2, the program becomes more specialised with modules in organic and inorganic chemistry, pharmaceutical microbiology, biochemistry, dosage form design, physical pharmaceutics, and advanced analytical techniques such as spectroscopy and chromatography. Students also study proteins, nucleic acids, and synthetic organic chemistry, gaining practical and theoretical knowledge relevant to drug discovery and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Year 3 focuses on advanced pharmaceutical sciences, including pharmaceutical synthesis, spectroscopy, biotechnology, analytical chemistry, separations, and bioinorganic chemistry. Students also study bioethics, clinical trials, environmental sustainability, and industry practices such as GMP and GLP standards. A major feature of the final year is the work placement or industry-relevant project, where students gain hands-on experience in regulated laboratory or manufacturing environments. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on laboratory competence, analytical problem-solving, scientific research, and professional development, preparing graduates for careers in pharmaceutical production, quality control, biotechnology, clinical research, and further scientific study.
