COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Applied Biology provides students with a strong scientific foundation and practical laboratory experience across key areas of the life sciences. In Year 1, students study core subjects including applied biology, chemistry, physics for biologists, laboratory practice, and mathematics, developing an understanding of biological systems, scientific problem-solving, and laboratory safety. These modules build essential analytical and technical skills required for biological and scientific research. In Year 2, students advance into specialised areas such as cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, spectroscopy, chromatography, and chemical analysis. They also study mathematics and statistics for quality control, learning how to analyse scientific data and apply quality tools used in laboratory and industrial settings. Practical laboratory training remains central throughout the program, helping students develop competence in scientific techniques and modern analytical methods. In Year 3, the program focuses on applied and industry-oriented topics including applied microbiology, applied biochemistry, bioanalytical techniques, food science, biotechnology, and quality assurance regulations. Students gain an understanding of how biological sciences are used in sectors such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, food production, biotechnology, and public health. The course concludes with a six- to eight-month industrial work placement in areas such as biopharmaceuticals, hospitals, environmental science, food industries, forensic science, or analytical laboratories. Overall, the program combines scientific theory, technical laboratory skills, and industry experience to prepare graduates for careers across a wide range of biological and life science sectors.
