COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Agricultural Science and Sustainability combines scientific knowledge, environmental awareness, and practical agricultural training to prepare students for careers in sustainable farming, agri-business, and environmental management. In Year 1, students build a foundation in sustainable development, environmental chemistry, laboratory practice, mathematics, computer skills, forestry, family farming, crop husbandry, soils, biology, animal production, and farm safety. These modules introduce both the scientific and social dimensions of sustainability in agriculture. In Year 2, students develop more specialised knowledge in dairy, beef, sheep, and tillage management, while studying farm business, biodiversity, ecology, environmental sustainability, habitat assessment, GIS mapping, and animal welfare. Students also explore how agriculture impacts biodiversity, society, and the wider agri-food sector. The program combines practical fieldwork with scientific and technological applications, helping students understand sustainable agricultural systems. In Year 3, learners focus on advanced topics such as grassland and nutrient management, environmental impacts of agriculture, water quality, farm planning, GIS environmental analysis, and professional development. The course also strengthens students’ communication, planning, and workplace skills. A major feature of the final year is a 500-hour work placement in organisations such as environmental consultancies, conservation agencies, agri-food companies, research bodies, or government organisations. Overall, the program prepares graduates with the technical, environmental, and professional skills needed to contribute to sustainable agriculture and environmental management sectors.
