COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) in Renewable and Electrical Energy Engineering is a four-year program designed to equip students with the technical, analytical, and practical skills required for careers in modern energy systems, with a strong focus on renewable energy and electrical engineering. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in electrical installation, electrical technology, engineering science, energy systems, industrial control, mathematics, and professional development, alongside an introduction to energy transition concepts. The second year develops more advanced understanding of electrical principles, industrial and control systems, PLC programming, instrumentation, photovoltaic and thermal renewable technologies, as well as applied mathematics and statistics. In the third year, students specialise in areas such as automation, SCADA systems, electrical machines, power distribution, wind energy, energy efficiency, instrumentation, and energy storage, while also completing a work placement to gain industry experience. The final year focuses on advanced topics including electrical power systems, protection systems, energy management, renewable energy policy, system integration, automation design, industrial networks, power quality, and statistical process control. Across all years, the program integrates theory with practical application, preparing graduates to design, manage, and optimise sustainable energy systems. Overall, it produces highly skilled engineers capable of contributing to renewable energy development, smart grid technologies, and efficient electrical infrastructure in both national and international energy sectors.
