COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) in Precision Engineering is a four-year program focused on advanced manufacturing, CNC machining, CAD/CAM design, metrology, materials science, and modern production systems. In the first year, students build a foundation in engineering mathematics, mechanical science, CAD design, engineering materials, and CNC programming, while gaining practical workshop and machining experience. The second year develops skills in CAM programming, CAD modelling, engineering maintenance, metrology, Six Sigma quality systems, control systems, thermofluids, and industrial mechanics, combining theory with hands-on manufacturing practice. In the third year, learners progress to advanced CNC machining, statistical process improvement, materials selection, process planning, and applied mechanical mathematics, alongside group projects and a five-month industrial placement that provides real-world engineering experience. The placement allows students to apply technical skills in professional environments and gain industry exposure. The final year focuses on advanced topics such as additive manufacturing, automated manufacturing systems, computer-integrated machining, engineering project management, design for manufacture, and advanced materials selection. Students also complete a major applied research project, often linked to industry, which develops independent problem-solving and analytical skills. Across the program, strong emphasis is placed on precision manufacturing, quality control, Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, and the use of modern technologies such as robotics and additive manufacturing. The course prepares graduates for careers in high-tech manufacturing sectors including medical devices, aerospace, automotive, and advanced engineering industries by combining theory, practical skills, and extensive industrial experience.
