COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng in Renewable and Electrical Energy Engineering is a three-year program that combines electrical engineering, renewable energy technologies, automation, and industrial control systems. In Year 1, students build strong foundations in electrical installation, electrical technology, engineering science, industrial control fundamentals, and energy transition concepts. They also develop mathematical, professional, and problem-solving skills essential for engineering practice. Students gain practical experience in domestic electrical installations, electrical circuits, power systems, and basic industrial controls. In Year 2, the program advances into industrial and renewable energy applications. Students study PLC-based control systems, electrical and instrumentation drawing, three-phase systems, motors, transformers, photovoltaic systems, thermal renewable energy systems, and industrial installations. They also strengthen their mathematical and statistical skills while continuing professional and project development. Year 3 focuses on advanced electrical engineering and renewable energy technologies, including SCADA systems, advanced PLCs, electrical machines, power distribution, wind energy, energy storage, energy efficiency, and process instrumentation. Students learn how modern energy systems are monitored, controlled, and optimised for industrial and environmental performance. A key feature of the final year is the work placement, where students apply their technical knowledge and practical skills in a professional engineering environment. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on hands-on learning, automation, renewable energy integration, and industry-relevant engineering skills, preparing graduates for careers in electrical engineering, renewable energy, energy management, automation, and industrial systems.
