COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng in Mechanical Engineering is a practical, industry-focused program that develops students’ knowledge of mechanical systems, engineering science, and modern manufacturing technologies. In the first year, students build foundational skills in engineering mathematics, CAD design, mechanical science, materials, computing, and basic electrical and pneumatic systems, giving them a strong grounding in core engineering principles. The second year deepens this knowledge through modules in CAD/CAM, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, engineering maintenance, programming, and electrical systems, with strong emphasis on hands-on laboratory and workshop learning. Students also develop problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills relevant to real engineering environments. In the third year, learners study advanced topics such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics, materials and mechanics, industrial automation, and applied engineering mathematics, alongside group project work that strengthens teamwork and professional communication. A major component of the program is the 20-week industrial work placement in the final year, where students apply their academic learning in a real engineering setting and gain valuable professional experience. For those without placement, an alternative professional practice module provides applied research and industry-based problem solving. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in mechanical and manufacturing engineering by combining technical knowledge, practical skills, and real-world industrial experience.
