COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical Engineering BEng program builds strong technical competence in electrical, control, and automation engineering through a structured progression of theory, laboratory practice, and industrial application. In Year 1, students develop core foundations in electrical installation, electrical technology, circuits, electronics, energy systems, engineering science, and mathematics, alongside introductory projects that build teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Practical installation work and basic circuit analysis support understanding of real-world electrical systems. In Year 2, learning expands into industrial control systems, PLCs, electrical principles, instrumentation, networking, and engineering mathematics, with increasing emphasis on automation, robotics, and system design. Students also gain experience in electrical drawing and structured project work, strengthening their ability to design and manage engineering solutions. Year 3 focuses on advanced industrial applications, including PLCs, SCADA systems, power distribution, electrical machines, testing, fault finding, instrumentation, and industrial maintenance. Students also study advanced mathematics for modelling and solving engineering problems, alongside energy efficiency and system optimisation. A key feature of the program is the work placement, where students apply their skills in a professional engineering environment. Across all years, the program develops practical competence, analytical ability, and industry readiness, preparing graduates for careers in electrical engineering, automation, and industrial systems, with strong employability supported by applied training and industry-focused learning.
