COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering BEng program provides a structured progression from fundamental engineering principles to advanced design, analysis, and real-world application. In the first year, students build core knowledge in engineering mathematics, structural analysis, soil mechanics, surveying, environmental engineering, and building information modelling, alongside foundational engineering skills. The second year deepens this understanding with advanced mathematics, structural design, fluid mechanics, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, engineering materials, and contract administration, while also introducing broader business and project management concepts relevant to engineering practice. In the third year, learners engage with more complex topics such as traffic engineering, advanced structural analysis and design, hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, engineering management, and professional ethics, supported by a significant work placement to gain industry experience. The final year focuses on specialist and applied areas including foundation engineering, wastewater treatment, advanced structural design, geotechnical engineering, and large-scale scheme design projects. A major dissertation and research methods module allow students to investigate an engineering topic in depth and develop strong analytical and academic skills. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on problem-solving, design codes, sustainability, and the use of industry-standard software. Graduates develop strong technical, analytical, and professional competencies, preparing them for careers in construction, infrastructure development, consultancy, and engineering project management within a rapidly evolving global industry.
