COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering BEng program provides a structured education that develops students’ technical, analytical, and practical skills across key areas of civil engineering. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules in engineering mathematics, mechanics, land surveying, ICT and engineering graphics, construction technology, sustainable materials, and introductory civil engineering concepts. These modules establish core knowledge in structures, materials, surveying, and basic engineering science. In Year 2, students progress to more specialised topics such as structural detailing, soil mechanics, fluid mechanics, environmental and water engineering, construction technology for domestic and commercial projects, sustainable engineering, estimating and tendering, and building information modelling. This stage strengthens applied understanding and introduces more industry-focused skills in design, analysis, and project processes. In Year 3, the program focuses on advanced civil engineering practice, including structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, highway engineering, public health and environmental engineering, and construction management. A major project integrates learning across disciplines, allowing students to solve real-world engineering problems independently and in teams. Optional modules such as contract administration and engineering IT further enhance professional competence. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in construction, infrastructure, design, and engineering management by combining theory, practical application, and project-based learning aligned with industry standards.
