COURSE CURRICULUM

This program offers a comprehensive blend of art and design practice with teacher education across four years. In the first year, students develop foundational creative skills through studio-based learning while studying art and design history, curriculum basics, philosophy of education, and how young people learn. The second year builds on this with deeper engagement in fine art and design practice, curriculum development, media in education, inclusive education, and the first school placement, allowing students to connect theory with classroom experience. In the third year, students explore curriculum policy, assessment practices, research methods, and inclusive education for special educational needs, alongside interdisciplinary studio projects and a second school placement that strengthens their teaching and reflective practice skills. The final year focuses on advanced pedagogy, curriculum innovation, and independent creative work through interdisciplinary practice, culminating in a final year research project and exhibition. A major component is the extended school placement, where students apply their knowledge in real classroom settings while conducting research into teaching and learning. Throughout the program, there is a strong emphasis on integrating artistic practice with educational theory, fostering reflective, research-informed teachers who can design inclusive, innovative curricula. Graduates are prepared to teach art and design at secondary level while maintaining an active creative practice.
