COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Sports Development & Performance is a four-year program that develops students’ knowledge and practical skills for careers in sport, coaching, and performance environments. In Year 1, students study foundational subjects such as anatomy and physiology, coaching principles, resistance training, exercise psychology, wellbeing, sports science, communication skills, and introductory sports development. They also gain experience in conditioning, coaching, and multi-sport activities while building an understanding of human movement and basic IT skills. In Year 2, the focus expands to performance analysis, sports psychology, nutrition, injury prevention, sports events, marketing, movement analysis, sport and society, and health and fitness assessment, alongside practical coaching and event planning experience. Year 3 develops more advanced skills in coaching technologies, sports governance, quantitative analysis, safeguarding, exercise for special populations, and sports development systems, supported by a major work placement or study abroad experience. In Year 4, students specialise in high-performance coaching, athlete welfare, talent identification, psychological performance skills, international sports development, and fitness testing, while also completing modules in entrepreneurship, business planning, and research. A final-year research project allows students to investigate a chosen topic in depth. Overall, the program produces graduates with strong coaching ability, scientific understanding, leadership skills, and real-world experience, preparing them for careers in sports coaching, performance analysis, sports development, and athlete support roles.
