COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sculpture & Combined Media BA (Hons) develops students’ sculptural and interdisciplinary art practice over three years, progressing from technical skill-building to independent professional work. In Year 1, students focus on developing core sculptural skills through a wide range of hands-on processes such as darkroom photography, printing, wood construction, metalwork, plaster and resin casting, digital sound art, drawing, inflatable sculpture, and 3D printing. Workshops also support essential skills like armature making, tool creation, digital image preparation, statement writing, and studio organisation, encouraging experimentation across traditional and contemporary media. In Year 2, the emphasis shifts towards time-based and digital practices including video production, editing, installation art, video mapping, stop-motion animation, and projection techniques, alongside optional studies in performance and medium format photography. Students engage in collaborative projects, public art, environmental art, and professional practice while also participating in internships, exhibitions, field trips, and Erasmus exchanges. In Year 3, students concentrate on developing a self-directed body of work, refining their individual artistic direction through advanced workshops and seminars focused on installation, presentation, audience engagement, and professional practice. The program culminates in a final degree exhibition, where students present a resolved body of sculptural and multimedia work demonstrating both technical ability and conceptual development.
