COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Print Contemporary Practice is a studio-based Fine Art degree focused on developing technical, conceptual, and professional skills in printmaking and contemporary art practice. In Year 1, students are introduced to core printmaking techniques and begin developing foundational skills through workshops, studio work, and critical and contextual studies exploring modern and contemporary art. Professional practice is introduced through exhibition organisation and digital portfolio development. In Year 2, students expand their practice using experimental print, digital, and lens-based media while engaging in more independent studio work supported by critiques and tutorials. This year also includes preparation for placement, a professional work placement or exchange experience, and reflective learning that connects practice with real-world cultural environments. Year 3 focuses on independent studio development, where students create a cohesive body of work through advanced printmaking practice, peer critique, and tutorials. Professional practice supports career planning and studio sustainability, while critical studies encourage independent research and academic inquiry. The program culminates in a major final-year body of work and graduate exhibition, supported by advanced research and contextual analysis. Across all years, the course emphasises experiential learning, critical thinking, experimentation, and reflective practice, preparing students for careers in the creative industries or further study through a strong blend of studio practice, research, and professional development.
