COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Care Work program prepares students for a professional career supporting vulnerable individuals and communities through a relationship-based and human rights-focused approach. Across three years, students develop strong academic, practical, interpersonal, and reflective skills needed for work in social care settings. Year 1 introduces key areas such as sociology, psychology, communication, safeguarding, equality, ethics, health and safety, creative and recreational skills, and personal development, helping students understand social care values and professional practice. Year 2 focuses on assessment and intervention, challenging behaviour, child and family law, social psychology, and professional preparation for placement. Students also complete their first supervised professional placement, gaining real-world experience in social care environments while developing teamwork, communication, accountability, and practical care skills. Year 3 deepens knowledge in ethics, leadership, law, mental health, research methods, reflective practice, and social policy. A second extensive placement allows students to take greater responsibility and actively participate in agency work while applying theory to practice. Throughout the course, students engage in reflective learning, professional development, and supervised fieldwork, preparing graduates for careers in residential care, disability services, youth work, family support, addiction services, homeless services, and community organisations.
