COURSE CURRICULUM

This Early Childhood Education and Care BA develops students into reflective practitioners equipped to support children from birth to six years through a holistic, play based and inclusive approach. The program combines theory and extensive practice placements to connect child development knowledge with real early years settings. In the first year, students study foundations such as child development psychology, sociology of childhood, language development, health and wellbeing, play, physical activity, curriculum frameworks and pedagogy, alongside preparation for professional practice and reflective skills. Creative arts, outdoor learning and observation skills support understanding of how children learn through experience. In the second year, learners deepen practice through a major 400 hour placement and modules on inclusive education, transitions, STEAM, drama, storytelling, nutrition, school age childcare and collaboration with families. They also explore regulatory frameworks, assessment and applied pedagogy. The third year focuses on advanced professional identity, research skills, law, leadership, play based teaching, literacy, arts and supporting children with additional needs. A second extensive placement allows independent planning, implementation and evaluation of curriculum. Across the program, students develop competence in observation, planning, safeguarding, inclusion, reflective practice and partnership with parents and professionals, preparing them for careers in diverse early childhood education settings.
