COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Sports Performance Analysis at South East Technological University offers a comprehensive, research-informed curriculum designed to develop advanced skills in performance analysis for sports. The program is delivered over three semesters, blending theoretical study with practical, industry-relevant experience. In Semester One, students study Technology in Sports Performance Analysis, Data Analysis in Sport, Contemporary Issues in Sports Performance Analysis, and Research Methods. These modules equip learners with the ability to capture, code, and present performance data using advanced technologies, including GPS and computerised analysis systems. Students also gain foundational skills in data analysis, including descriptive and inferential statistics, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis, applied directly to sports datasets. Emphasis is placed on evaluating contemporary issues, integrating theory and practice, and developing professional competencies such as teamwork, communication, and project management.Semester Two focuses on applying analytical skills to coaching and performance environments. Modules include Coaching Science, Sports Analytics and Insights, and Applied Sports Performance Analysis. Coaching Science provides insight into coaching philosophies and strategies, highlighting the role of performance analysts in supporting athlete development and decision-making. Sports Analytics and Insights teaches students to use modern statistical and visualisation tools, including R, to generate dynamic dashboards, predictive models, and network analyses, translating complex datasets into actionable insights. Applied Sports Performance Analysis consolidates technical expertise, allowing learners to apply evidence-based practices to real-world scenarios while strengthening professional skills like project planning, collaboration, and presenting findings effectively.Throughout the program, a Dissertation module runs concurrently, enabling students to design, conduct, and report on research projects relevant to sports performance analysis. By the end of the MSc, graduates will have developed a strong theoretical foundation, advanced technical and analytical competencies, and the professional skills required to deliver impactful insights in high-performance sport, positioning them for careers as performance analysts in both national and international sporting contexts.
