COURSE CURRICULUM
Students on the Master of Engineering in Flight Test Engineering will study a range of modules that develop knowledge of aircraft systems, flight performance, testing procedures, and aerospace regulations. The program begins with core subjects that focus on the design and operation of aerial vehicles. Aerial Vehicle Platforms introduces the structure, design principles, and operational characteristics of different types of aircraft. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles explores the development, control, and applications of drone technology, which is becoming increasingly important in modern aviation. The program also covers propulsion and control systems used in aircraft. Electric and Hybrid Propulsion examines modern propulsion technologies aimed at improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact. Flight Control Systems focuses on the systems that control aircraft stability, manoeuvrability, and overall flight performance. Students will also study Avionics Hardware and Software Certification, which explains how aircraft electronic systems are designed, tested, and approved according to international aviation standards.Practical flight testing and data analysis form a major part of the course. The Flight Testing module teaches students how to plan and conduct flight tests to evaluate aircraft performance and safety. Data Acquisition and Analysis focuses on the techniques used to collect, process, and interpret flight test data accurately. Quality and Environmental Testing examines how aircraft components and systems are tested to ensure reliability under different environmental conditions.Students will also gain knowledge of the wider aviation industry through modules such as Aviation Finance and Legislation, which explores the financial, legal, and regulatory frameworks that govern aviation operations. Spacecraft Systems Engineering introduces the basic principles of spacecraft design and operation, expanding the program’s scope beyond atmospheric flight.Research and independent study are key components of the program. Research Methods for Engineering prepares students to conduct scientific research and technical analysis. The program concludes with a Dissertation in Engineering, where students undertake a substantial research project related to flight testing or aerospace engineering.
