COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice is structured across three semesters, combining core modules, specialised topics, and a substantial research dissertation. In Semester 1, students build a foundation in research methods, criminological theory, and the workings of the criminal justice and penal process. Modules include Research Methods in Criminology (10 ECTS), Criminological Theories & Debates (10 ECTS), and Criminal Justice & Penal Process (10 ECTS), equipping learners with the analytical and methodological skills necessary for advanced study and practice in the field.Semester 2 introduces specialised areas of study that allow students to explore contemporary issues and diverse perspectives within criminal justice. Topics include Terrorism and Political Violence (5 ECTS), Victims of Crime (5 ECTS), Comparing Criminal Justice Systems (10 ECTS), and Desistance, Reintegration and Rehabilitation (10 ECTS). These modules provide in-depth knowledge of current debates, policy challenges, and practical approaches to offender rehabilitation, victim support, and systemic comparison.Semester 3 is dedicated to the Criminal Justice Dissertation (30 ECTS), a significant research project where students apply their theoretical understanding and research skills to investigate a topic of their choosing. This capstone project enables learners to engage in independent research, critically analyse data, and contribute original insights to the field of criminology and criminal justice.Overall, the program combines rigorous theoretical learning, practical understanding of criminal justice processes, and research-driven inquiry. Graduates finish with the skills and knowledge to work effectively in criminal justice roles, influence policy development, and undertake research that informs practice across diverse professional and academic contexts.
