COURSE CURRICULUM
The Tourism and Event Management program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, practical skills, and industry awareness required to build successful careers in the growing tourism and events sector. Tourism plays an important role in Ireland’s economy, attracting millions of visitors every year and supporting employment in many areas such as hospitality, transportation, entertainment, and cultural services. Festivals, exhibitions, sporting events, conferences, and cultural celebrations are key elements that attract both domestic and international tourists. Because of this growing demand, there is a strong need for qualified professionals who can plan, manage, and deliver successful events while also supporting the wider tourism industry. This course focuses on developing those professional skills by combining tourism studies, event management, business knowledge, and digital competencies. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of tourism and event management. Modules such as Principles of Event Management, Introduction to Tourism, Irish Natural Heritage and Landscape, and Irish Cultural Heritage help students understand the importance of tourism resources and cultural attractions. At the same time, subjects like Digital Skills, Statistics and Forecasting, and Customer Service in Practice help students build essential practical and analytical abilities. In the second year, the focus shifts to more specialised topics such as Event Planning, Event Sustainability, Event Operational Control, Tourism Elements, and Marketing Mix. Students also explore Irish heritage, folklore, and guiding skills, which are important for tourism development and visitor experiences.During the third year, students develop more advanced knowledge in areas such as International Tourism and Destination Management, Financial Management, Tourism Law and Regulations, and Applied Research Skills. They also prepare for industry placement, which provides valuable real-world experience in tourism or event organisations. In the final year, the program focuses on strategic and analytical skills through modules such as Digital Marketing, Strategic Management, Services Marketing, Data Analytics, and Sustainable Tourism Development. Students also complete a dissertation or event management project, allowing them to apply their knowledge to a real industry problem. Overall, this program prepares graduates for careers in tourism development, event planning, destination management, and hospitality management.
