COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Rehabilitation and Athletic Therapy degree is a four-year honours program designed to prepare students for careers in the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries in physically active populations. In the first year, students build a foundational understanding of physiology, anatomy, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, biomechanics, and sport and exercise psychology, providing the scientific knowledge required to work with athletes. Emphasis is placed on applied coaching and physical performance, integrating laboratory and practical experiences to develop essential skills in health and sport sciences. In the second year, students advance their expertise with modules in neuromuscular skeletal assessment, pathology of injury, soft tissue manual therapy, motor control, and applied exercise physiology, alongside research methods, ensuring they gain practical and theoretical competencies in injury assessment and management. Year three focuses on professional application, including sports nutrition, movement dysfunction, electrophysical agents, articular manual therapy, pre-competition trauma management, and advanced rehabilitation and performance programming. Students engage in student-led clinical practice and applied research, allowing them to consolidate their knowledge in realistic settings and develop confidence in clinical decision-making. The final year emphasizes professional practice and advanced clinical skills, including differential diagnosis, current concepts in sports rehabilitation and athletic therapy, and extensive clinical placements. A research project and dissertation provide students with experience in evidence-based practice and critical evaluation of sports science research. Across all four years, students develop the skills to assess, treat, rehabilitate, and prevent injury, while gaining experience in strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, and applied sports performance. Graduates are fully prepared to work with athletes, teams, and physically active populations, and are equipped with the knowledge and practical expertise required for employment in elite sports, rehabilitation clinics, and professional health settings, with pathways to professional accreditation.
