COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Science is a four-year honours degree designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of human movement, exercise, and athletic performance. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational concepts such as fitness and movement, functional anatomy and kinesiology, sport and exercise biomechanics, human physiology, exercise psychology, strength and conditioning, and business principles for the exercise professional. These modules combine theory with practical applications to develop essential skills in analysing and improving physical performance.In the second year, students advance their knowledge with modules focused on exercise physiology, exercise prescription, nutrition, motivational interviewing, physical activity interventions, and skill acquisition in sport psychology. Research methods and statistics are also introduced to equip students with the ability to design, conduct, and interpret experiments and performance assessments. These subjects build the foundation for more specialised work in later years and allow students to integrate scientific principles into practical programs for individuals and groups.Year three focuses on applied sports science, including advanced performance analysis, applied biomechanics, applied sport and exercise physiology, conditioning for performance sport, exercise psychology in practice, sport and exercise nutrition, sports medicine, and contemporary issues in sport and exercise. Students also complete a major research project, providing the opportunity to investigate a topic in depth and apply scientific methodologies to real-world scenarios.In the final year, students undertake a work placement in sport and exercise science, gaining hands-on professional experience. Advanced modules cover ergogenic aids, elite sport performance, advanced physiology, professional practice, social media, and applied sport psychology. The year concludes with the second phase of the major project, allowing students to synthesise and apply all learning from previous years.
