COURSE CURRICULUM

The four-year Software Development program equips students with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience required to design, build, and maintain modern software systems. In Year 1, students establish a strong foundation in programming, networking, computer hardware, mathematics, and operating systems, while also developing essential applications and interpersonal communication skills. Year 2 builds on this foundation with specialized subjects including systems analysis and testing, object-oriented software development, digital logic, web programming, databases, and data structures and algorithms, along with a Year 2 project that allows students to apply their learning in a practical context. Year 3 focuses on advanced programming concepts, software engineering, cloud development, and advanced data structures and algorithms, providing opportunities for professional experience through work placements, projects, and optional semester abroad programs. This ensures that students gain both technical expertise and industry-relevant exposure. In the final year, the curriculum emphasizes state-of-the-art software development practices, including agile software development and verification, concurrent development, secure application development, and data science and machine learning. Students also undertake a comprehensive final-year project to integrate their accumulated knowledge and demonstrate mastery of software design and development. A broad range of electives, including cloud data centres, artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, distributed development, UI/UX design, data engineering, and programming language design, allows learners to tailor the course to their interests and emerging industry trends. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, ensuring they can work effectively in collaborative development environments.
