COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Public Health and Health Promotion is a four-year degree program that develops students’ knowledge and skills in health, wellbeing, and community care. The course is designed to help students understand how health is influenced by biological, psychological, and social factors. In the first year, students learn the basic foundations of health sciences. Modules such as Anatomy and Physiology introduce students to the structure and function of the human body, while Care of the Older Adult and Medical Surgical Care help them understand common health conditions and patient care. Students also study Psychology for Health Care, Principles of Health Promotion, and Healthcare Informatics to build a broad understanding of health systems and health behaviour. In addition, subjects like Learning to Learn and Life Skills for Health and Wellbeing help students develop personal, academic, and professional skills. The first year also includes a placement where students gain early experience in a real healthcare environment.In the second year, the course focuses on public health knowledge and communication skills. Students study topics such as Health Promotion in Key Settings, Epidemiology and Public Health, Sociology of Health, and Nutrition. They learn how lifestyle, society, and the environment influence health. Modules like Communication and Media Skills, Basic Facilitation Skills, and Active Citizenship help students learn how to engage with communities and promote healthy behaviours. Students also learn about research methods and statistics, which are important for analysing health data and evidence.The third year develops more advanced health promotion skills. Students learn about promoting physical activity, improving health among children and young people, and supporting older adults. They also study equality, inclusion, and workplace health promotion. During this year, students complete another professional placement where they apply their knowledge in a practical setting.In the final year, students focus on specialised topics such as public health policy, environmental health, and behaviour change. They complete a research dissertation and choose elective modules based on their interests. These studies prepare graduates for careers in health promotion, community health, and public health organisations.
