COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Nutrition and Exercise Science is a comprehensive four-year honours degree designed for students seeking to combine the study of exercise science with applied nutrition, preparing them for careers in health, sport, and wellness. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in fitness, movement, functional anatomy, kinesiology, sport and exercise biomechanics, physiology, and exercise psychology. Emphasis is placed on promoting physical activity, research and learning skills, strength and conditioning, and understanding the business aspects of exercise professions. Year two expands knowledge in exercise physiology, nutrition, and exercise prescription while introducing motivational interviewing, group fitness instruction, physical activity interventions, and skill acquisition in sport psychology. Practical applications are reinforced through teaching and professional practice modules. In the third year, students begin to specialise, with modules covering applied sport and exercise physiology, applied sports nutrition, assessment for nutritional status, sport and exercise nutrition, food components and health, pathophysiology of disease, and weight management. Students also undertake a major project in Nutrition and Exercise Science, alongside elective options such as Exercise as Medicine or Exercise Psychology in Practice, providing opportunities for applied research and independent study. The final year focuses on professional integration, with a work placement in nutrition and exercise, advanced sport and exercise physiology, sports nutrition for special populations, ergogenic aids, and professional practice including social media application. A second major project allows students to synthesise learning in a practical research context. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on developing skills to evaluate nutritional needs, design dietary plans for athletic and general populations, optimise performance, apply evidence-based exercise strategies, and promote health and well-being. Graduates will be equipped to assess, analyse, and advise on nutrition and exercise interventions, using research-informed approaches to support athletes, teams, and the wider public. This program integrates theory, applied science, and professional practice to prepare students for careers in nutrition, exercise, sports science, health promotion, and related fields.
