COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Molecular Biology with Biopharmaceutical Science is a four-year honours degree that combines foundational scientific knowledge with specialised training in biopharmaceutical and molecular biology techniques. In the first year, students develop essential laboratory and analytical skills alongside core subjects such as cell biology, biochemistry, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and information and communication technology. Elective modules in areas such as plant biology, modern physics, biotechnology, pharmaceutical science, and food science allow students to explore different scientific fields while building a broad knowledge base.In the second year, the focus shifts to more advanced scientific techniques and applied knowledge. Students study microbiology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, chromatographic and electrophoretic methods, environmental monitoring, microbial biotechnology, and genetics. Applied mathematics and statistics are integrated into the curriculum to strengthen analytical and data interpretation skills, and laboratory work becomes increasingly central to the learning experience.The third year introduces specialised modules in pharmaceutical biotechnology, protein chemistry, enzymology, molecular biology, and applied immunology. Students also gain practical experience through a work placement or study abroad, providing hands-on exposure to industrial and research environments. Total quality management and chromatographic method development and validation are taught to equip students with industry-standard practices for biopharmaceutical production and testing.In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge through advanced modules such as biopharmaceutical technology, molecular biology and medicine, regulatory affairs, physiology and pharmacology, and cell factories with mammalian cell culturing. Applied research skills are emphasised through research methodology, literature review, and a final year research project. Students are trained to carry out rigorous experimental work, analyse data, and apply regulatory and quality standards critical for careers in biopharmaceutical, biomedical, and related industries. The program equips graduates with the scientific expertise, practical experience, and professional skills necessary for employment or postgraduate study in biotechnology, biopharmaceutical science, and molecular biology.
