COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the Health Sciences (Common Entry) program, students are given the opportunity to explore two different areas of healthcare study during both semesters. These areas include Applied Health Care and Public Health and Health Promotion. This structure allows students to gain an understanding of the key principles, skills and knowledge involved in each field. By studying both areas, students can experience different perspectives of healthcare, including direct patient support and broader public health approaches that focus on improving the health of communities and populations.The first year is designed to help students make an informed decision about their future studies. Many students begin the program with a general interest in healthcare but may not be sure which specific pathway suits them best. The common entry structure gives them the time and opportunity to explore their interests before choosing a specialised degree. Through lectures, practical learning and discussions, students develop a strong foundation in health sciences while becoming familiar with the professional roles and responsibilities within each area.If students are uncertain about which area of health science they would like to pursue, they do not need to make that decision immediately. Instead, they can wait until the end of the first year before selecting their preferred pathway. After completing Year One, students choose to continue their studies in either Applied Health Care or Public Health and Health Promotion. This flexible structure supports students in identifying the career path that best matches their interests, strengths and professional goals within the healthcare sector.
