COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Health & Exercise Science is a full-time, four-year honours degree designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to promote health, physical activity, and well-being across a range of populations. The program combines the core disciplines of exercise science, including physiology, biomechanics, and psychology, with applied principles in strength and conditioning, exercise programming, and nutrition. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in Fitness and Movement, Functional Anatomy & Kinesiology, Sport & Exercise Biomechanics, Applied Anatomy and Sport Physiology, and Exercise Psychology. They also gain essential skills in data collection, measurement, research, and professional practice, preparing them for practical and academic challenges. In the second year, students apply these principles in areas such as Exercise Physiology, Exercise Prescription, Nutrition, Group Fitness Instruction, Physical Activity Interventions, and Motivational Interviewing, fostering the ability to design effective programs that encourage participation and behaviour change. The third year introduces more specialized and applied modules, including Applied Sport and Exercise Physiology, Adapted Physical Activity, Child and Youth Physical Activity, Exercise as Medicine, Physical Activity Assessment and Evaluation, and Physical Activity, Sport, and Development. Students also complete a major research project and choose a module such as Sports Medicine or Nutrition for the Life Cycle to deepen expertise. The final year integrates professional practice and advanced knowledge, including Work Placement, Advanced Sport & Exercise Physiology, Exercise as Medicine 2, Active Ageing, and a Major Project in Health & Exercise Science. Students also develop professional skills through modules in social media, communication, and applied research. Graduates of the program are prepared to evaluate physiological function, design and lead exercise programs for diverse populations, apply behavioural techniques to promote adherence, and implement initiatives that increase physical activity in communities. They are well-positioned to pursue careers in health promotion, clinical exercise, wellness, community-based physical activity, and fitness management, making them highly versatile professionals in the growing field of exercise science and health.
