COURSE CURRICULUM

The Exercise Sciences (Common Entry) program is a four-year degree designed for students who want a broad introduction to exercise science before committing to a specific pathway. The first two years provide a common entry foundation, giving students a chance to explore different aspects of the field while developing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. During these years, students study subjects such as Fitness and Movement, Functional Anatomy and Kinesiology, Sport and Exercise Biomechanics, Data and Measurement, Business for the Exercise Professional, Nutrition, Energy and Macronutrients, and Positive Psychology. Practical placements are embedded throughout, allowing students to apply learning in real-world settings. This approach ensures that students understand the wide variety of career opportunities available in exercise science and can make an informed choice regarding their specialism.At the end of the second year, students choose one of three specialist exit pathways to complete their Level 8 honours degree. The BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science focuses on performance and elite sport applications, covering modules such as Conditioning for Performance Sport, Applied Biomechanics, and Sports Medicine. The BSc (Hons) in Nutrition and Exercise Science emphasizes nutritional science for sport and health, including modules like Assessment for Nutritional Status, Nutrition for Sports Performance, and Sport and Exercise Nutrition. The BSc (Hons) in Health and Exercise Science is designed for those interested in health-related applications of exercise, offering subjects such as Physical Activity Assessment and Evaluation, Nutrition for Health, and Advanced Sport and Exercise Physiology.All three pathways include a significant research project in the final year, alongside a work-based placement in the second semester of the third year, giving students practical experience in their chosen field. Graduates of the program are well-equipped for careers in sports science, exercise prescription, nutrition, health promotion, or clinical and performance environments, combining strong theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience. The common entry structure provides flexibility, exploration, and a strong foundation, ensuring that students make informed choices about their specialist pathway and career trajectory.
