COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Construction Management is a four-year honours degree designed to equip students with the technical, managerial, and practical skills needed to lead construction projects from concept to completion. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge in AutoCAD, IT, communications, the construction industry, applied mathematics, land surveying, building services, and domestic technology and structural appreciation. This year establishes the core technical and professional skills required for the industry.Year 2 builds on this foundation with more advanced modules in building services, measurement and estimating, construction law, contract management, earthworks, sustainable technology, commercial and industrial technology, and health, safety, and risk management. These modules focus on combining technical knowledge with management principles and practical applications, preparing students to manage complex construction tasks. In Year 3, students consolidate their learning through applied site management, professional practice, contract management, integrated construction technology projects, and research methods. A key component is the work placement, which provides real-world experience in the construction industry, allowing students to apply their knowledge in a professional environment.Year 4 focuses on the higher-level management, legal, and strategic aspects of construction projects, including construction administration, site operations management, built environment law, contract law and public procurement, organisational behaviour, advanced construction technology, BIM management processes, and a dissertation. This final year equips students to manage projects efficiently, coordinate diverse teams, oversee health and safety compliance, and apply innovative technologies in construction management.Graduates of this program are prepared for careers as construction managers, site managers, project managers, or contract administrators, working with contractors, consultancies, and large clients. They leave with a comprehensive understanding of the construction process, the ability to lead projects safely and sustainably, and the skills to respond to the demands of both the Irish and international construction industries.
