COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Construction Management & Engineering at SETU is structured as a comprehensive four-year honours degree that integrates engineering, management, and practical construction skills. In Year 1, students build a solid foundation with modules such as Construction Measurement, Construction Economics, Theory of Structures, Construction Technology, and Introduction to BIM, alongside essential management, mathematics, ICT, and communications skills. This ensures graduates understand the technical and managerial principles underpinning modern construction projects.In Year 2, students deepen their technical and managerial knowledge through subjects like Construction Law, Tendering & Estimating, Project Management, Geotechnical Engineering, Design of Structures, and Procurement Strategy, along with electives that allow for personalisation of study. Emphasis is placed on understanding real-world construction processes and the legal, financial, and technical frameworks that govern them.Year 3 focuses on applied engineering and site-based skills. Modules such as Engineering Structure, Site Surveying, Construction Tech Systems, Construction Health & Safety, and Measurement & Costing equip students with practical expertise, while a 30-week Industrial Placement provides direct experience in professional construction environments. Research Methods and elective modules support the development of analytical and problem-solving skills essential for complex projects.In Year 4, students refine their expertise with advanced modules like Development Economics, Project & Corporate Management, Construction Law, Temporary Works Design, Services Technology & Integration, Marketing & Finance, and Innovative Technology. The final year includes a Dissertation and a second Industrial Placement, offering a chance to demonstrate applied knowledge, leadership, and project management abilities in professional settings.This combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skill-building, research, and industry experience ensures graduates are fully prepared to take on professional roles as construction managers and engineers, capable of managing projects efficiently, safely, and sustainably in both Irish and international contexts.
