COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Interactive Digital Art and Design is a four-year program that equips students with the creative, technical, and practical skills needed to thrive in digital media, games, applications, animation, and virtual reality industries. In Year 1, students gain foundational knowledge in communication, mathematics for graphics, human-computer interaction, interaction design, 2D digital art, concept art for games, game design, and programming, including object-oriented programming. Year 2 develops these skills further through animation principles, 3D digital art, project management, user interface design and programming, design psychology, user interface testing, and prototyping, enabling students to combine technical programming skills with creative design thinking. Year 3 emphasizes applied learning and professional development, with modules in business processes, creative studio work, user experience measurement, interactive content creation, and advanced user interface programming, alongside options for industrial placements, study abroad, and project-based electives, giving students real-world experience in the digital media sector. In Year 4, students focus on advanced technical and creative projects, including 2D and 3D environmental and character modelling, emergent human-computer interaction, visual effects programming, concept design, and a major capstone project. Elective modules such as entrepreneurship, blockchain technology, data visualization, bias in computational systems, and case studies in data science provide opportunities for students to tailor their studies and gain interdisciplinary insights. Throughout the program, students learn to combine artistic creativity with programming and interactive design skills, producing high-quality digital content and applications. Graduates emerge as imaginative, innovative, and versatile professionals, capable of contributing to user experience design, games development, multimedia production, virtual reality, animation, and digital content creation, making them highly employable in Ireland’s growing digital and creative economy as well as international creative technology industries.
