COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (Internet of Things) is structured over four years to provide a strong foundation in computing while developing specialised expertise in connected devices and smart systems. In Year 1, students focus on core programming and scientific principles through modules such as Programming Fundamentals 1 and 2, Website Development 1, Web App Development, Discrete Mathematics, Applied Calculus, Computer Systems 1 and 2, Physics 1 and 2, The Computer Industry, and a Project in Semester 2. This year builds essential coding skills, analytical ability, and an understanding of how computer systems operate. In Year 2, students move into more IoT-focused topics including Electronic Devices and Systems, IoT Standards and Protocols, Computer Networks, Applied Cryptography, Data Structures and Algorithms 1 and 2, Mathematical Methods, DC/AC Fundamentals, Relational Databases, Statistics and Probability, along with practical project work in both semesters. This stage strengthens knowledge of networking, security, electronics, and data management. Year 3 deepens technical and professional skills with modules such as Developer Operations, Embedded Systems Scripting, NoSQL Databases, Web App Development 2, Measurement Systems, and a semester-long project, while offering elective options including Industrial Placement, Study Abroad, Voluntary Organisation Project, or Professional Certification to enhance real-world experience. In Year 4, students complete advanced subjects such as Distributed Systems, Functional Programming, Data Mining 1 and 2, Mobile App Development 1, and major capstone projects (Project 1 and Project 2), alongside Automotive or Electronic options and a Free Elective. This comprehensive structure prepares graduates to design, develop, and manage innovative IoT solutions.
