COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Game Development is a comprehensive four-year program designed to equip students with the technical, creative, and professional skills needed to succeed in the gaming industry. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in programming fundamentals, computer systems, discrete mathematics, web and mobile app development, and 2D game development, alongside essential physics and applied calculus for technical problem-solving. Year 2 expands this knowledge into data structures, relational databases, computer networks, applied cryptography, and software engineering practices, while introducing core game design and development concepts, 3D game asset creation, and professional communications. In Year 3, students engage in a games development practicum and have the option to undertake work-based or international experiences through industrial placements, study abroad, professional certification, or voluntary organisation projects, further enhancing their industry readiness. Elective modules such as C++ programming for games provide specialised skills in high-performance game development. The final year emphasises advanced technical and creative competencies, including functional programming, advanced 3D and mobile game development, data mining, distributed systems, and professional project work. Students develop major projects such as game development in C++ and undertake complex mobile game design, culminating in a robust portfolio that demonstrates both technical ability and creative problem-solving. The course prepares graduates for careers ranging from indie and casual game studios to high-end AAA game development, with strong employability skills gained through hands-on projects, industry placements, and exposure to professional game development practices. The combination of theoretical knowledge, programming expertise, and real-world experience ensures that graduates are well-positioned to enter the competitive gaming and software development sectors with confidence.
