COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (Automotive & Automation Systems) is a four-year honours degree that equips students with the skills and knowledge to design, develop, and implement software solutions for the automotive and industrial automation sectors. In the first year, students build a foundation in programming, computer systems, web and app development, applied calculus, physics, and automotive software concepts. Year two focuses on core computing skills including data structures and algorithms, relational databases, software engineering practice, applied cryptology, embedded systems, and programmatic logic controllers, combined with essential mathematical and communication skills. In the third year, students advance their practical expertise through developer operations, web applications, measurement systems, and model-based development, while also having opportunities for professional certifications, industrial placements, or study abroad programs to gain real-world experience. The final year emphasises advanced topics such as distributed systems, mobile app development, data mining, automotive software development, and advanced driver assistance systems, alongside capstone projects and exploration of connected car technologies. The program is strongly aligned with industry needs, preparing graduates to work in innovative sectors including intelligent vehicle systems, driverless cars, collision avoidance, smart manufacturing, and industrial automation. By blending computing, engineering principles, and automotive technology, the course ensures that students graduate with the technical proficiency, problem-solving abilities, and practical experience required to contribute effectively to the development of cutting-edge automotive and automation solutions, both in Ireland and internationally.
