COURSE CURRICULUM
The BSc (Hons) in Biosciences with Biopharmaceuticals is a four-year honours degree designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of living organisms and their applications in biopharmaceutical science. The course builds a strong scientific foundation in the first two years, with mandatory modules in fundamental biology, animal and human biology, chemistry, laboratory science, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, instrumentation, and analytical techniques. Students also gain quantitative and quality control skills essential for precise scientific practice. During these initial years, students develop critical laboratory skills, problem-solving abilities, and theoretical knowledge required for advanced study. In the third year, the course moves into more specialized and applied areas, including molecular biology and immunology, microbial cell factories, food microbiology, spectroscopy, and biochemistry. Students also learn about quality management, experimental design, and data analysis, while completing bioscience projects that integrate theoretical learning with practical application. This year prepares students for real-world scientific challenges and emphasizes hands-on experience, including workplace planning for industry applications. Elective modules allow students to explore statistical data analysis for the pharmaceutical industry, adding flexibility to their learning. The fourth and final year focuses on advanced topics in biopharmaceutical science, such as pharmaceutical science, industrial bioprocessing, molecular genetics, immunology, and bioforensics. Students undertake a significant research project in bioscience or biopharmaceuticals and complete a work placement, which provides essential practical experience in professional laboratory or industrial settings. Students also study environmental health and safety and current trends in biopharmaceutical technology, preparing them to meet regulatory and safety standards in industry.Graduates of this course emerge with a well-rounded scientific education, practical laboratory skills, research experience, and professional exposure. They are equipped to pursue careers in biotechnology, pharmaceutical research and production, diagnostics, quality control, or further postgraduate study in biopharmaceutical science and related disciplines. The combination of theoretical knowledge, hands-on laboratory work, and industrial experience ensures that students are ready to contribute effectively to scientific innovation and health-related industries.
