COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 2 of the BSc (Honours) in Organic Agriculture, students build on their foundational knowledge by developing specialised scientific, technical, and business skills essential for modern organic farming systems. The curriculum is structured across two semesters, integrating biological sciences, financial management, technology, and market understanding to prepare students for professional agricultural practice.In Semester 3, students study Agricultural Microbiology, Applied ICT in Agriculture, Concepts in Soil Science, Farm Financial Accounting, Genetics and Breeding, and Principles and Standards of Organic Production. These modules strengthen understanding of soil health, microbial processes, inheritance and breeding strategies, and the regulatory framework governing organic certification. At the same time, students enhance their digital competence and financial management skills, which are critical for efficient and sustainable farm operations.Semester 4 shifts focus toward applied production systems and economic strategy. Students take Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Micro Economics, Agroforestry Production Systems, Animal Nutrition, and Fundamentals of Protected Cropping Systems in Organic Agriculture. These subjects develop insight into market dynamics, pricing, enterprise profitability, integrated land-use systems, and sustainable livestock and crop production within organic frameworks. Together, the Year 2 modules provide a balanced combination of science, sustainability, and business management, ensuring that students are well prepared for advanced study and leadership roles within the organic and broader agri-food sectors.
