COURSE CURRICULUM

The Tourism and Event Management program is structured over three years and is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in tourism, business, and event planning. Throughout the course, students gradually develop knowledge, practical abilities, and professional skills that prepare them for careers in the tourism and events industry. The program combines academic learning with practical experience so that students understand both the theory and real-world applications of tourism and event management.In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of tourism, Irish culture, and basic professional skills. Modules such as Irish Natural Heritage and Landscapes and Introduction to Tourism help students understand the importance of Ireland’s environment, culture, and heritage in attracting visitors. Students also study Principles of Event Management, where they learn the basics of organising and planning events. Digital Skills modules help students develop computer and technology skills, while Academic and Professional Skills prepares them for academic work and future careers. Subjects such as Statistics and Forecasting and Investment Maths introduce basic analytical and financial skills that are useful in business and tourism planning. Customer Service in Practice is also included to help students understand how to provide high-quality service in tourism and hospitality environments.In the second year, the focus moves toward more specialised tourism and event management subjects. Students study modules such as Event Planning, Event Sustainability, and Event Operational Control, which teach them how to organise and manage events effectively while considering environmental and social impacts. Marketing-related modules like Introduction to Marketing and Marketing Mix help students understand how tourism products and events are promoted to attract visitors. Students also learn about Irish heritage and culture through modules such as Irish Folklore and Tradition, Built Heritage Appreciation, and Irish Tour Guiding.In the third year, students focus on advanced management and professional development. Modules such as Financial Management, Law and Regulations for Tourism and Event Management, and International Tourism and Destination Management prepare students for leadership roles in the industry. Students also develop research and analytical skills through Applied Research Skills. A key feature of the final year is the Placement Preparation and Practice module, which prepares students for real industry work experience. Elective modules such as People Management and Contemporary Irish Literature allow students to explore additional interests while developing broader knowledge and professional skills.
