COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Sustainable Farm Management and Agribusiness is designed to prepare students for careers in the evolving agriculture and agri-food sectors by combining scientific knowledge, practical farm skills, and business expertise. In Year 1, all students follow a common set of modules that build a strong foundation in agricultural science and enterprise management. Semester 1 includes Applied Physics and Chemistry, Principles of Crop and Grassland Production, Farm Health and Safety, Academic and Personal Skills Development, and Digital Skills for Agriculture. In Semester 2, students study Basic Mathematics, Animal and Plant Biology, Principles of Animal Production, Farm Mechanisation and Regulations, and Agribusiness Management. This shared first year ensures that students develop core competencies in scientific principles, farm operations, safety standards, digital technologies, and business fundamentals before choosing a specialisation.At the end of Year 1, students decide which stream to pursue in Year 2, as the program offers two pathways. One option allows students to continue within Sustainable Farm Management and Agribusiness, while the other offers the Organic Agriculture Stream, focusing on sustainable and certified organic farming systems. Students who select the organic pathway may later progress to the BSc in Organic Agriculture, aimed at developing leaders and innovators within Ireland’s expanding organic sector. Years 1 and 2 concentrate on practical and managerial skills relevant to farm enterprises, while Year 3 advances students’ understanding of agricultural systems, agribusiness strategy, organic production, and the biological foundations of farming. Successful completion of Year 2 also provides Green Cert recognition, enabling eligibility for stamp duty exemptions and land transfer schemes available to young farmers.
