COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Molecular Biology with Biopharmaceutical Science is a three-year full-time program designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for careers in biopharmaceutical, biomedical, environmental, and food-related industries. This course develops the ability to work with living organisms, primarily microbes and other cell types, to produce drugs, vaccines, and other biologically derived products, while also providing opportunities for further study or research careers. Graduates gain a strong foundation for roles in scientific research, biotechnology, quality management, or even teaching at secondary school level.In Year 1, students build essential skills and knowledge in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and ICT. Core modules such as Good Laboratory Practice, Cell Biology & Biochemistry, and Introduction to Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Science ensure students develop practical laboratory competence alongside theoretical understanding. Elective options like Plant Biology or Forensic Science allow students to explore areas of personal interest.Year 2 focuses on more advanced scientific topics, including Microbiology, Biochemistry, Spectroscopic Techniques, Food Microbiology, and Microbial Biotechnology and Genetics. Students also develop analytical and problem-solving skills through modules like Laboratory Data Analysis and Presentation, Applied Mathematics for Scientists, and Environmental Monitoring. These modules emphasize experimental design, data analysis, and the application of scientific principles to real-world problems.Year 3 provides specialized training in Molecular Biology and Genetics, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Protein Chemistry and Enzymology, Microbial Ecology and Bioremediation, and Applied Immunology. Students gain experience in industrial processes, data modelling, quality management, and laboratory-based research through modules such as Chromatographic Method Development and Validation, Laboratory Data Modelling, Industrial Processing and Operations, and the Research Project and Methodologies module. The combination of hands-on laboratory experience, advanced scientific training, and exposure to real-world industrial applications ensures that graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, and related scientific industries.
