COURSE CURRICULUM

The three-year BSc in Forestry provides a comprehensive education in forest science, management, and sustainable practice, equipping students with the knowledge and technical skills required for professional careers in forestry. In Year 1, students build a strong scientific and technical foundation. Semester 1 includes Plant Biology, Forest Establishment, Mechanisation and Safety, Dendrology, Mathematics for Forestry, and Information and Communication Technology for Forestry. In Semester 2, students study Forest Surveying and Mapping, Fundamentals of Forestry, Wood Science, Earth Science, ICT for Forestry, and Chemistry for Land Scientists. This first year develops core competencies in tree identification, forest operations, mapping, environmental science, and safe use of forestry equipment.Year 2 focuses on applied forestry and environmental management. In Semester 3, students take modules such as Timber Technology, Forest Mensuration, Forest Protection, Forest Soils, Forestry and the Environment, and Applied Geographical Information Systems, gaining practical and analytical skills essential for managing forest resources. Semester 4 is dedicated to a professional placement, providing valuable industry experience and allowing students to apply classroom learning in real forestry settings.In Year 3, the emphasis shifts to advanced management, economics, and sustainable forestry practices. Semester 5 includes Forest Economics, Sustainable Forest Management, Principles of Silviculture, Forest Inventory, and Forest Harvesting. In Semester 6, students study Plantation Silviculture, Commercial Forestry Practices, Forest Engineering, Small Enterprise Management, and complete a Forest Management Plan. Overall, the program integrates science, technology, environmental stewardship, and business management to prepare graduates for leadership roles in modern forestry.
