COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Engineering Honours in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is structured over four years and is designed to provide students with strong foundations in engineering principles, manufacturing technologies, and industrial systems. The course combines theoretical learning with practical experience and allows students to specialise in different areas of modern engineering during the final year. The course outline may change over time to reflect new technologies and industry requirements. In Year 1, students learn the basic principles of engineering, mathematics, materials, and manufacturing. In Semester 1, the modules include Engineering Maths 1, Physics, Materials 1, Mechanical Systems, Engineering Drawing, and Engineering Professionalism. These subjects introduce students to scientific principles, engineering materials, mechanical components, and professional skills required in engineering. In Semester 2, students study Introductory Engineering Calculus, Electrical Science, Manufacturing Technology 1, Engineering Mechanics, Computer Aided Draughting, and Manufacturing Systems. These modules focus on mathematical analysis, electrical concepts, mechanical forces, and modern manufacturing processes. In Year 2, students develop deeper knowledge of engineering design, manufacturing technologies, and mechanical systems. In Semester 3, the modules include Electrical Engineering, Engineering Maths 2, Engineering Design, Applied Mechanics, Introduction to Programming, and Materials 2. In Semester 4, students study Computer-Aided Design, Thermodynamics, Manufacturing Technology 2, Production Systems, Intermediate Engineering Calculus, and Electronic Engineering. These modules provide knowledge about energy systems, computer-based design, programming, and advanced manufacturing techniques.Year 3 focuses on industrial applications and professional engineering skills. In Semester 5, students study Quality Management, Automation and Control, Mechanics of Materials, Dynamics and Vibrations, Enterprise Resource Management, and Fluid Mechanics. These subjects help students understand industrial production systems, mechanical performance, and fluid behavior. In Semester 6, students complete Industrial Studies and Placement, where they gain practical experience in real engineering workplaces. In Year 4, students complete advanced modules and a major engineering project. In Semester 7 and Semester 8, students study subjects such as Heat and Mass Transfer, Facility Simulation and Reliability, Operations Strategy, Advanced Materials and Process Selection, Applied Fluid Mechanics, and Manufacturing Facilities. Students also complete Project 1 and Project 2, which allow them to apply their knowledge to solve real engineering problems. In addition, students choose elective modules related to specialised streams such as Mechanical and Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing, Biomedical Engineering, Green Technology and Alternative Energy Systems, Robotics and Automation, and Systems Integration and Industry 4.0. These streams allow students to focus on modern engineering technologies and develop expertise in specific areas of interest.
