COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year One, Semester One of the Common Entry Engineering program, students are introduced to the broad field of engineering through the ‘Introduction to Engineering’ module, which features five engaging mini-projects, each typically lasting two weeks and completed in collaborative groups. These projects provide hands-on experience and insight into the practical applications of different engineering disciplines. Additionally, students benefit from presentations by professional engineers who explain how their specialisations positively impact society and industry. Alongside this, foundational modules in Mathematics, Science, and Critical Thinking—namely ‘Engineering Mathematics 1’, ‘Engineering Computing’, ‘Physics 1’, and ‘Thinking & Learning’—equip students with the essential skills and knowledge required across all engineering fields. To reinforce learning, extra tutorials are provided for Mathematics, helping students connect mathematical concepts directly to engineering applications. Each student also meets weekly with a mentor throughout the semester, providing personalised guidance, support, and advice on choosing the engineering discipline best suited to their interests and abilities. This structured support ensures that students can make informed decisions about their specialisation. By Semester Two of Year One, students begin to focus on one of the four specialist engineering areas, laying the foundation for further in-depth study in their chosen field over the following three years. This combination of practical projects, theoretical learning, and guided mentorship ensures a well-rounded start to an engineering career, giving students both the technical skills and confidence to excel in their chosen discipline.
