COURSE CURRICULUM
Year 1 of the BEng (Hons) in Sustainable Civil Engineering introduces students to the foundations of engineering, combining core technical knowledge with professional skills. Semester 1 includes modules such as Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Computing, Engineering Mathematics 1, Engineering Physics 1, Engineering Professionalism, and Land Surveying & Sustainable Energy, providing students with a comprehensive grounding in engineering principles, mathematics, physics, and industry practice. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with Engineering Maths 2, Engineering Physics 2, Mechanics 1, BIM 1, and Management for Engineers, equipping students with the analytical, technical, and organizational skills needed for civil engineering practice. In Year 2, students begin to focus on civil engineering disciplines, with Semester 3 covering Construction Health & Safety, Construction Technology, Engineering Maths 3, Reinforced Concrete Design, Site Works Design, and BIM 2 and Surveying. Semester 4 continues with Engineering Maths 4, Environmental Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Introduction to Project Management, Structural Analysis 1, and Timber & Steel Design, deepening students’ understanding of construction methods, structural analysis, materials, and sustainable design principles. Year 3 emphasizes applied learning and industry experience, with Civil Engineering Maths and Construction Technology Systems alongside Geotechnical Engineering 1, Hydraulics, and Structural Analysis 2. Students complete a six-month placement and can select electives such as Advanced Surveying, Energy Performance of Buildings 2, Highway Engineering, Mechanics of Materials, or Sustainable Heat & Power Generation Technologies to tailor their learning. In Year 4, students consolidate their expertise through Dissertation 1 and 2, Geotechnical Engineering 2, Hydrology for Sustainability, Project & Corporate Management, Structural Analysis 3 & Design, Environmental Engineering 2, and Innovative Technology, alongside optional modules including Law for Engineers and Sustainable Energy. The program integrates theoretical knowledge with practical and professional experience, ensuring graduates are prepared to design, construct, and manage sustainable infrastructure projects while meeting contemporary environmental, societal, and industry standards.The BEng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering is a four-year honours degree that equips students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to work in modern electronic and telecommunications engineering. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation with modules such as Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Computing, Engineering Maths 1 and 2, Engineering Physics 1 and 2, Engineering Professionalism, Analogue Electronic Devices, DC Circuit Theory, Introduction to Electronic & Electrical Technology, and Introduction to Programming, providing a comprehensive grounding in core engineering principles, mathematics, physics, electronics, and professional practice. Year 2 introduces advanced electronic and programming concepts, including Analogue Electronic Circuits 1 and 2, Digital Systems, Finite State Machines, AC Circuit Theory, Electric Circuit Theory, Microelectronics, Introductory Telecommunications Theory, and Object-Oriented Programming for Microcontrollers, alongside mathematical modules covering Ordinary Differential Equations and Advanced Calculus, giving students the analytical and design skills required for complex electronic systems. Year 3 emphasizes applied learning and professional experience with modules such as Advanced Engineering Maths, Analogue Control, Embedded Systems Scripting, Mobile Wireless Telecommunications, Semiconductor Fundamentals, and Enterprise Studies, combined with a placement and research methods to develop hands-on expertise. Elective options allow specialization in areas such as Analogue Circuit Designs or Electromagnetic Fields & Waves. In Year 4, students focus on advanced electronic systems and embedded solutions through Embedded Systems Architecture & Hardware, Mobile Wireless Telecommunications 2, Theory & Applications of DSP, Embedded Firmware, Real-Time DSP Implementation, and Project Implementation, with electives in areas like Semiconductor Devices, Internet of Things Applications, Embedded OSs, Digital Control, and System-on-Chip Design. Across the program, students gain skills in circuit design, embedded systems, telecommunications, programming, and digital signal processing, ensuring they are industry-ready and capable of contributing to the design, development, and implementation of innovative electronic and embedded technologies.
