COURSE CURRICULUM
The Biomedical Electronics program is structured over four years and is divided into eight semesters. Each semester includes a combination of mandatory modules designed to provide students with strong knowledge in electronics, biology, mathematics, and medical device technologies. In Year 1, students begin by studying the fundamental principles of both biology and electronic engineering. In Semester 1, the modules include Physiology and Cell Biology 1, Electrical and Electronic Fundamentals, Mathematics and Computer Applications 1, Programming Systems, and Technical Communications. These subjects introduce students to the basic concepts of human biology, electronic systems, mathematical foundations, programming, and communication skills. In Semester 2, students continue their learning with Physiology and Cell Biology 2, Prototyping, Electrical and Electronic Circuits, and Mathematics and Computer Applications 2. These modules help students understand biological systems while also developing practical skills in circuit design and prototyping. In Year 2, the course moves toward more advanced technical and scientific topics. In Semester 3, students study Analogue and Digital Electronics 1, Engineering Mathematics 1, Computer Programming, Fundamentals of Microbiology 1, and System Design and Test. These modules focus on electronic systems, programming techniques, microbiology concepts, and system design methods. In Semester 4, students take modules such as Analogue and Digital Electronics 2, Medical Devices and Instrumentation, Engineering Mathematics 2, Fundamentals of Microbiology 2, and Embedded Systems 1. These subjects provide deeper knowledge of medical device technologies and embedded electronic systems used in healthcare applications.Year 3 introduces more specialized topics and practical experiences related to biomedical engineering. In Semester 5, students study Analysis of Analogue Circuits, Molecular Biology and Immunology 1, Digital Communications, Engineering Mathematics 3, and Embedded Systems 2. These modules strengthen students’ understanding of electronic analysis, communication technologies, and biological processes. In Semester 6, students can choose from several elective options including Network Programmability and Automation, Molecular Biology and Immunology 2, Medical Device Standards and Regulations, Development Project in Engineering, Software Defined Radio, Work Placement, Spectroscopy for Biosciences, and Study Semester Abroad. These options allow students to gain industry experience, develop research skills, or study internationally. In Year 4, the final stage of the program focuses on advanced engineering knowledge and research work. In Semester 7, students study Microelectronic Design 1, Hardware Description Language, Signals and Systems 1, Power Electronics for Biomedical Systems, and Signals and Systems 2. In Semester 8, the modules include Biomedical Signal Processing, Research Project in Engineering, Professional Studies, and Digital Systems. During this final year, students apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the program to complete a research project and prepare for professional careers in the biomedical and medical device industries.
