COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) in Automation Engineering is a four-year honours degree designed to equip students with the multidisciplinary skills needed to design, implement, and maintain automated systems in modern industry. Automation engineering combines electronics, instrumentation, robotics, software programming, networking, databases, and data intelligence to optimize processes across sectors such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food production, and manufacturing. The course begins with a strong foundation in core engineering principles including mathematics, physics, programming, electronics, and professional skills, giving students a broad understanding of the engineering disciplines and their applications. In years two and three, students develop specialized knowledge in control systems, industrial instrumentation, mechatronics, embedded systems, programmable digital systems, and industrial automation, alongside programming for microcontrollers, robotics, and database management. The final year focuses on advanced applications of automation, including digital and analogue control, advanced programming for robotics, industrial networks, IoT integration, and regulatory compliance, alongside a major project that synthesizes technical knowledge and practical skills.
